Hesperia Community

The City of Hesperia is located in San Bernardino County in the Mojave Desert of California. The 'High Desert' city is currently home to approximately 80,000 residents.

Originally home to the headwaters of the Mojave River and the Native American tribe whose lands extended from Colorado westward into the San Bernardino Mountains, the area was then settled by the Spanish missionaries who reached the area via Arizona. The Mormon Trail and US Army explorations brought additional population through the mid-1800s. A railroad came through in 1847 with the depot being completed in 1885 when the name Hesperia was given, meaning "Star of the West". Primarily expanded through ranching and agriculture, the area saw much of its visitors and growth due to its positioning at the top of the original Cajon Pass through the mountains. As infrastructure changed and traffic was moved away from Hesperia, it became known as a place where people could purchase inexpensive land which has since developed into today's Hesperia, which was incorporated as a City in 1988.

Hesperia Education

With 23 locations throughout the area, Hesperia is served by the Hesperia Unified School District.
